How many widths of fabric do you need?

Calculate the track or pole's width in centimetres, double that amount, then divide the result by the width of the fabric. Proceed to the next entire number by rounding up.

Using a 200-cm-wide pole as an example, let's say your cloth is 137 cm wide. You therefore need three widths in total because 200 x 2 = 400 cm, divided by 137 cm = 2.91, and rounded up to 3. One set of curtains measuring one and a half widths will result from this.

2. Measure the drop, then add on the hems

The distance between the top of the track or pole and the bottom of the curtain is known as the drop. Add an additional 15 cm to the drop for pencil pleat curtains or an additional 30 cm for double and triple pinch pleats and eyelet headers when it comes to hems.

3. Add on the pattern repeats, then add up all the drops.

For every drop length, add the pattern repetition, excluding the first width.
As an illustration, let's say that the appropriate curtains for our pole are a pair of 1.5-width eyelet curtains, or three widths of fabric total, with a 180-cm drop. Additionally, suppose that we want to utilize a fabric with a 25-cm vertical pattern repetition. The overall drop required for the first width is 210cm (180 + 30 for hems), and the drops required for the following two widths are 235cm (+/- 25 cm). Thus, a total of 680cm, or 6.8 meters, of cloth are needed (210+235+235). Easy!

Made To Measure Curtains: FAQs

What Is The Curtain Hanging Rule of Thumb?
To guarantee the optimum fit, there are a few general guidelines to follow while hanging curtains. In order for the panels to hang correctly over the windows and always cover them, you must first make sure that your curtain rod is wider than the width of your window. In general, you want to make your space between 8 and 12 inches broader than your window.

In curtain measurements, what do W and D mean?
First and foremost, while measuring curtains, you should measure the width (W), which is measured across the top of the curtain rod or track. The distance between the top of the curtains and the floor or base of the window is known as the curtain drop (D).

Are Curtain Sizes Per Pair Or Per Curtain?
The curtain sizes should be for the pair since made-to-measure drapes are always sold in pairs. You should take one measurement for the width; however, if your curtain tracks are attached independently and overlap in the middle, make sure you take two measurements, add them together, and use the total measurement.

Curtains: Should They Reach the Floor?
Curtains are often placed so that they either barely touch the floor or linger about 0.5 inches above it. Ultimately, though, it may come down to personal taste. Curtains that reach the floor are impractical for some window layouts, such kitchen windows. Take café curtains, for example.

Common Curtain Widths: What Are They?
This bespoke service is made possible by the fact that there are no "standard" widths when it comes to made-to-measure curtains. The three common widths of 46", 66", and 90" are available if you're seeking for ready-made curtains. Made-to-measure curtains offer an alternative if these widths are not appropriate, guaranteeing that your curtains are precisely right for you.
