William Morris Pomegranate & Lily Panelled Cushion

William Morris Pomegranate & Lily Panelled Cushion

Jane Morris, the wife of William Morris, was the subject of no fewer than eight paintings by Dante Gabriel Rossetti depicting Proserpine, the goddess taken by Pluto to his palace of the dead in the underworld.

Jane was Rossetti's mistress for almost ten years, from 1865 to 1876, when Jane learned of his addiction to the opium laudanum. Rosetti also painted Jane as Pandora, Astarte, and Beatrice, but it was the goddess of the underworld that he kept returning to..

It fits 18x18 inches cushions and is a tapestry cushion with a piped edge. It has a concealed zip on one end to allow pad to be removed for washing or replacement.
